Iran Former prosecutor bags 135 lashes

A former state prosecutor in Iran has been sentenced to 135 lashes by a court in Tehran after being found guilty of abusing his position, a media report said on Wednesday.
Saeed Mortazavi, a close ally of former hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, had also been accused of involvement in the deaths of three political prisoners under unclear circumstances but was acquitted of that charge.
However, Mortazavi is known to have targeted other government opponents as a prosecutor and ordered the closure of several reformist newspapers.
The report noted that in 2014, he was banned from serving in the judiciary following numerous accusations of human rights abuses.

A young man stabbed two female students at their high school in western Canada on Tuesday, killing one and wounding the other, who was hospitalized in stable condition, police said.
The incident took place in Abbotsford on the US border, some 70 kilometers (45 miles) east of Vancouver, with the attacker arrested on the spot, city police chief Bob Rich told broadcaster CBC.
Police were dispatched to Abbotsford Senior Secondary School just after 2:00 pm (2100 GMT) following reports of an assault in progress, a police statement said.

Anti-graft agency denies plan to re-arrest Fani-Kayode on Nov 10

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has denied alleged plan to re-arrest ex-Minister, Femi Fani Kayode on November 10, 2016 when he is arraigned in court.
In a report by Premium Times, the anti-graft agency's spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren discarded the tale saying it was a mere rumour.
Meanwhile Fani-Kayode's spokesman, Jude Ndukwe has said he is aware of the plans to re-arrest the ex-minister when he is arraigned for a charge of collecting N26m from ex-NSA, Sambo Dasuki.
