Abdulrazak Namdas, the chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Media and Publicity, has cleared the air on allegations behind the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) Act amendment.
Addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, June 2, 2016, Namdas said the act was amended with the intention to improve laws adding that the House was just doing its legislative job.
"We are just doing our legislative jobs to improve laws as legislators. We have our duties. People should not allude that it was done with an Intention. It should be seen In the light of doing our jobs.
It was introduced to the House on November 24, 2015, it was debated on February 23, 2016 and passed on Tuesday, May 31," he said.
When asked on the stripping of the President's powers to appoint members of the Bureau, the spokesman of the House stated that the National Assembly was not usurping the powers of the executive but cautioning public office holders adding that it was done in fairness.
He further explained that the House was doing something to tackle the bombing of the pipelines in the south south by the Niger Delta Avengers.
"As a member of the Committee on Defence, steps are taken to address the security situation in the area," he added.
