Facebook has just announced that its Messenger service has hit another milestone: more than 1 billion pe
ople now use the platform every month.
If you combine that with WhatsApp,
which hit one billion users back in February, and you would see that
Facebook now owns two of the most popular messaging apps in the entire
world.
The company also says that this also places Messenger as the second most popular iOS app of all time, just behind Facebook itself
On Android, Facebook says Messenger has been downloaded over a billion times. "As
part of this journey to 1 billion, we focused on creating the best
possible experiences in modern day communications. We remain focused on
helping connect people to the people and businesses who matter most," David Marcus, VP of Messenger, said in a statement.
Facebook also dropped
other stats: Messenger now has over 18,000 bots, 10 percent of all VoIP
calls are apparently now made through Messenger, and finally, more than
22 million GIFs are sent through Messenger every other day. Whew.
From WhatsApp to Instagram,
and now Messenger, Facebook and the platforms it owns now have a
combined number of users that equals almost half the entire population
of the earth.
