The 14th Annual African festival, “FestAfrica 2016,” will be held at the Silver Spring Civic Center, Veterans Plaza in Downtown Silver Spring, MD on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th August, 2016 from 1PM – 8PM on both days.
The 2-day celebration will welcome 8,000 or more attendees, featuring Nigerian musician MC Galaxy and Congolese sensation Pegguy Tabu. Attendees can expect a DJ jamboree featuring DJ Chick and Miss DJ Rock
alongside many of the hottest DJs in the DMV. The festival will feature
traditional African music, dance performances, fashion shows, arts
& crafts, vendors, African cuisine, games, and much more.
FestAfrica
is a statewide African festival with support from the Montgomery County
Government. Current sponsors include Brussels Airline, Western Union,
State Farm, Moneygram and Mid Atlantic Bath Fitters.
The
theme for this year’s festival is “African Youth in the Community,”
highlighting young people of African-immigrant heritage who have made a
tremendous impact in the community. The FestAfrica Honors Award
segment
of the festival will honor Papa Oppong (Fashion Award Recipient), Tambra
Stevenson (Community Service Award Recipient), and Laolu Senbanjo (Arts
and Entertainment Awards Recipient).
